There’s plenty of room to roam about, and a number of lakes perfect for all kinds of natural experiences — cutting loose with friends or simply cooling off after basking in the steady Texas sunshine.
This region contains Prairies, as the name implies. If you visit Fort Worth, you can see some classic Texas Prairie at either the Fort Worth Nature Preserve or Tandy Hills Nature Preserve, with Tandy Hills likely providing the best view of what a Texas Prairie looked like before civilization arrived.

There are many lakes in this area, all of which are man-made reservoirs that provide fun for fishermen, swimmers, boaters, skiers, and other water sports enthusiasts. Millions of Texans have easy recreational access to several large lakes in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Dallas
Dallas, Fort Worth and many thriving cities between have grown into a sprawling area called the Metroplex. Dallas itself is known for nightlife. All the trendiest spots are complemented by low-key hang outs and tremendous music venues, not to mention restaurants for every taste bud in the free world. Then there’s the dazzling architecture and spectacular performances of an all-new Arts District. Fair Park hosts the State Fair of Texas, plus museums and art deco galore. The Deep Ellum Entertainment District and Oak Cliff overflow with colorful experiences. And sports fans could hardly miss the colossal Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, near the home of the Texas Rangers, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor and other great attractions.
Fort Worth
Fort Worth seems to pride itself on contrasting Big D. While Dallas offers plenty of glitz, Fort Worth showcases its heritage and cowboy spirit. The Stockyards National Historic District, National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame and Billy Bob’s Texas –the largest honky-tonk anywhere– are just a few examples. Fort Worth is loaded with cultural experiences. The Amon Carter Museum, Kimbell Art Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and Bass Performance Hall are all spectacular experiences. And of course, the Fort Worth Zoo has plenty of wild sights too.
Classic Towns
You’re virtually guaranteed to find a friendly face and memorable experiences in the area’s smaller communities. Outside the Metroplex, delightfully straight-shootin’ folks in towns like Commerce and Texas’ very own Paris provide a great variety to see and do. Waco may be the heart of this region, and Bryan-College Station is extremely dynamic, partially due to Texas A&M University’s presence. And then wonderfully unique communities like Bastrop, Lockhart and Seguin are built around classic, picture-perfect Texas town squares and provide a real glimpse of small-town Texas life.

Have you been to the Dr Pepper Museum? How about a tour of famous Blue Bell Creameries? Well then, you’ll have to hit these tasty and fun samples of what makes Texas just so Texas-y. And don’t forget the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, the Waco Mammoth Site, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Dinosaur Valley State Park and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, where you could have a giraffe nibble from your hand.
